Year 5 girls enjoyed a guided live tour of Westminster Abbey – all without leaving Lyonsdown! A wonderful tour guide gave them a virtual tour of the Abbey – showing the girls all the way around the building, explaining the unique site and its incredible history. She answered an array of great questions from the girls during the course of her 1.5hour tour.
This virtual tour is a ‘first’ for the Year 5 girls at Lyonsdown – but given the School’s normal trip programme is on hold, the teachers are finding new and exciting ways to bring learning to life in a covid-safe way!
“The girls really enjoyed it,” says Year 5 class teacher Mrs Polak. “It was an exceptionally good experience for them, bringing both the building and its history to life.”
Highlights include the story of the Princes in the Tower – which Lila described as “really fascinating”, and Hannah’s favourite – the story about Richard II who fell asleep during his coronation.
Here’s what some of the other Year 5 girls thought of the virtual trip:
- “Westminster Abbey was amazing, stupendous and grand and a real pleasure to visit even though it was virtual,” Delilah
- “Westminster Abbey was amazing and Lou, our guide, did an amazing job online,” Naina
- “It was very grand and interesting with great stories,” Lana.
