From the Headmaster's Desk

Summer seems to have retreated temporarily this week, and so the first Headmaster’s Coffee Morning took place after a very cool gate duty.

Our coffee morning was the latest way in which parents can engage with Lyonsdown, adding to our other various communication initiatives. Warm coffee, the odd pastry; it was like Starbucks or Costa, but with proper cups. On the topic of events for parents, I would like to take this opportunity to remind parents that our first Parent Talk will take place at 7pm on Tuesday 8th May, with the topic being Digital Parenting. This is a subject that will be of huge importance to your son or daughter as they grow up, so I would urge you to attend; please see our earlier email for full details and to register.

Staff were also busy engaging with important topics this week, with a visiting speaker updating staff on the latest in pupil well-being and positive classrooms. This added to a busy week for the pupils, with Year 2’s Roald Dahl Museum adventure a big success. Next week there are Year 5 and 6 trips and an Upper School Choir outing – these are just the beginning of a packed Summer Term, which culminates in an exciting final two weeks.

You will have also read Miss Doyle’s important announcement about Sustainability. The School Travel Plan and Green Flag projects mark the beginning of another journey for Lyonsdown, and allows the School to adapt its practice and for us all to develop as responsible members of the community. There will be much more from the “Green Team” in the coming weeks, so keep an eye out for further Eco news.

And so, back to the weather, which has decided to work in some kind of shift pattern for the next few weeks. This has meant that a mix of Winter and Summer uniform can currently be seen in school, allowing pupils to make personal choices. As with Sustainability, we need to be flexible and adapt to what is occurring around us to ensure the best outcomes for our children.

All the best for the weekend
