The weather is glorious, the World Cup is taking place and England have remembered how to win at cricket – summer has finally decided it is here to stay.
In fact, it was a particularly successful week for Lyonsdown on the sports field, with a highly successful Barnet Primary Athletics Championships. All of our school events have been blessed with good weather this week, including Year 4’s outing to the Saatchi Gallery. We also welcomed the remainder of our new Nursery children to School – it is always exciting to see the next generation of pupils being their journey here.
It is funny to think that we are all on a journey, even if we are standing still. As I type and you read, we are spinning at roughly 1,000 miles per hour and orbiting the sun at 70,000 miles per hour. It is these incredible speeds which mean Thursday saw the longest day of the year. The sun rose at 4:43am and set at 9:22pm; a 16 hour and 22 minutes day. 21st June always seems to come too early in the summer, but if you consider that the Winter Solstice of 21st December only provided us with just under eight hours of daylight, our journey becomes clearer.
As you know, things certainly do not slow down at Lyonsdown as we move towards the holidays, although we may not quite move at 70,000 miles per hour. This Saturday sees the FLS Summer Fete, closely followed by a bevy of major events – the Sports Day programme begins with the Year 2-6 on Friday 29th June, the highlight of the penultimate week of term must be the Upper School Performance and the final week of this year treats us to a School Disco and End of Year Celebration. Summer is here, and the final act of the final term is rightly full of exciting activities that our pupils will remember during the break and beyond.
So, onto the first of these fantastic events: I look forward to seeing all of you at the FLS Summer Fete; a glorious event that will take place in glorious weather.
