I start this week’s Head’s desk with Billie Eilish (parents, ask your children), who has been rewarded for her hard work and stellar rise to become the youngest ever artist to write and record a theme song for the James Bond film series. An amazing “gig” to get; a sure fire hit is in the offing. Except, even stars such as Ms Eilish can find things difficult when faced with such a big opportunity. For every Skyfall, Adele, there is a The Living Daylights, A-ha. Where Paul McCartney and Wings succeeded with Live and Let Die, Madonna… well, didn’t with Die Another Day. However, views on art are subjective – Madonna’s song reached number 3 in the UK charts.
What is important is that we take advantage of the opportunities that are presented to us and make the most of them because we enjoy what we are doing. Lyonsdown extra-curricular programme is stronger than ever, with more music offered than ever before (there is even a piano in the Small Hall!), with the full clubs schedule now operational. This week, Mrs Cowie arranged textile workshops for both the Lower and Upper Schools. This will be the highlight of some children’s term, whilst others look forward to sport fixtures or drama. Whatever the case, make the most of every opportunity – the title song to No Time To Die may yet give Billie Eilish an Academy Award, but I doubt that will matter to her that much.
Speaking of opportunity, this week I have been away from Lyonsdown inspecting another school for ISI. As well as giving something back to the educational community, it is a superb way to ensure that Lyonsdown is up-to-date with the latest regulations.
All the best for a relaxing weekend.
