Fond Farewell to our Year 6 Leavers

The end of the School year was unlike any other. Normally filled with mass gatherings and celebrations – this year we adapted to ‘the new normal’ to enable our Year 6 leavers to say a fond farewell to Lyonsdown, their friends and teachers.

Prize Giving still took place albeit only for our Year 6 leavers, instead of the whole school gathering.  All of the Year 6 girls were invited, to say goodbye and to mark the end of their primary education and their move on to the next step of their learning journey.

The changed ceremony saw all of our Year 6 leavers take to the podium to give a short speech.  This was a wonderful and unique opportunity for them to share their memories and highlights of their time at Lyonsdown.  During his speech, Mr Hammond described the “perseverance they have shown” over the last few months, which is “something that they can be proud of for years to come.”

As always, a range of cups and awards were given to the girls – for their hard work, their achievements both in and outside of the classroom, and their attitude and approach to learning and the Lyonsdown community.  The leavers’ success, in attaining places and awards to top schools, was also acknowledged by Mr Hammond.  “Be it Ark Academy, Belmont, Channing, Dame Alice Owen’s, JCoSS, Haberdashers’, Henrietta Barnett, Mount House, Palmers Green High, QE Girls, Queenswood, Royal Masonic, St Albans High, St Margaret’s, St Helen’s, St Michael’s Catholic Grammar Year 6… wherever your future lies, I am confident that you will continue to succeed, continue to achieve and continue to impress.”

Mr Hammond concluded by saying, “the Year 6 class of 2020 are leaving Lyonsdown, but, in many ways, they will never leave Lyonsdown. The contribution they have made to a fantastic school have ensured that their spirit will run through the School for years to come.”
