The happiness and wellbeing of all our girls underpins everything that we do.

When you visit Lyonsdown, you will be able to see this for yourself, as you will be greeted by cheerful, welcoming and motivated girls who are resilient and respectful, supporting each other and enjoying their learning journey.

We emphasise our happy family atmosphere, where mutual respect is encouraged. Our aim is to foster an environment founded on trust and care, which will enable our girls to feel safe and secure to develop and excel. At Lyonsdown, every girl is known and valued as an individual and supported and stretched to succeed inside and outside the curriculum. Our Values are embedded throughout the school and reinforced through a programme called The Happy at Schools Project, this teaches and supports skills in resilience, reflection, independence and emotional literacy. These combined, provide the moral compass that we all follow.

Each class has a timetabled Wellbeing slot where pupils are taught various techniques to identify and regulate emotions including Mindfulness. We are pleased to say in 2024 we were awarded the Wellbeing Award by Optimus Education

Form Teachers are primarily responsible for the welfare of the pupils in their charge and ensure that each girl is known, listened to and cared for on a personal level. The pastoral care structure allows teachers and teaching assistants to report any concerns to the pastoral team. This team meets weekly to discuss children, review, and build on strategies already in place. If needed we offer 1:1 check-ins, drop in support groups and Lego Play Therapy. All pupils know they can turn to any staff member if they are anxious or unsure and that their concerns will be dealt with confidentially and promptly. This is reinforced by a personal welcome each morning by the Head and Deputy Head at the gate.
